Switzerland Proposes VAT increases in 2023.

The Federal and Cantonal Council of Switzerland has put forward a proposal to increase the standard VAT rate of 7.7% to 8.1%, the reduced VAT rate to be increased from 2.5% to 2.6% and the special rate for accommodation services to  be increased from 3.7% to 3.8% respectively.

The proposal requires a majority of the votes of the cantons to be passed. A decision is expected in September 2022, therefore an expected increase in the VAT rates thus becomes likely as of 1 January 2023.
